A mediados del siglo XIX el lugar tenía contabilizadas 70 casas. Aparece descrito en el cuarto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Monuments
Casas con vestigios arquitectónicos del siglo XVIII, en la calle Mayor.
Iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles (reconstruida en el año 1770), consta de una sola nave con capillas laterales, un retablo plateresco y dos tablas góticas.
Restos de un castillo medieval (siglo XII), en Turbena.
Ermita de San Bartolomé, en Turbena, románica, del siglo XII.
