Maià de Montcal (Catalan pronunciation: [məˈja ðə muŋˈkal]) is a village in the province of Girona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 17.28 square kilometres (6.67 sq mi) and the population in 2014 was 443.

History

Consta en un documento del año 978 la donación efectuada por el conde obispo Miró III de Cerdaña al monasterio de San Pedro de Besalú, de una casa y su corte, con el nombre "Villa Maliano".

Hasta la reforma de la nomenclatura municipal de 1916 el municipio se llamaba simplemente Mayá. En dicha fecha su nombre fue modificado por el de Mayá de Moncal.

Santuario de Santa Magdalena de Mayá, siglo XII

Ermita de los Santos Primo y Feliciano, (siglo XVIII), en cuyo interior se encuentra un pozo de agua milagrosa, según creencia popular.
