Esponellà (Catalan pronunciation: [əspunəˈʎa]) is a village in the province of Girona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 16 square kilometres (6.2 sq mi) and the population in 2014 was 458.
History
Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar, ya por entonces con ayuntamiento propio, tenía contabilizada una población de 188 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el séptimo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz con las siguientes palabras:
