Villasbuenas de Gata (Extremaduran: Villas-Güenas) is a municipality located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. According to the 2005 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 490 inhabitants.

History
Los primeros asentamientos estables en la sierra de Gata se produjeron hacia el año 3000 a.c., viviendo sus pobladores en pequeños poblados de piedra, unidos por vínculos familiares. En Castillejos (Villasbuenas de Gata) se han hallado restos de uno de estos poblados.
Villasbuenas de Gata perteneció al señorío de los Fonseca, familia de la nobleza salmantina emparentada con la conocida saga de arzobispos del mismo apellido, por compra que realizó Rodrigo de Messia a Felipe II en 1556.
Aunque su contribución a la Conquista americana fue escasa (debido al poco vecindario de la población), uno de sus habitantes, Francisco de Trejo, se destacó como gran soldado en Perú y en Colombia, y como eficiente cabildante en la ciudad de Mérida (Venezuela). En estos mismos escenarios conquistadores también intervino Cristóbal Gómez Nieto.
Hasta la reforma de la nomenclatura municipal de 1916 el municipio se llamaba simplemente Villasbuenas. En dicha fecha su nombre fue modificado por el de Villasbuenas del Gata.
Monuments
Los principales monumentos son:
Iglesia parroquial católica bajo la advocación de La Consolación, a cargo del párroco de Perales del Puerto, en la diócesis de Coria;
Casa de la Mujer Panzuda, palacio del siglo XVII con relieves peculiares;
Baños de la Cochina, balneario de lodo situado en el término de Villasbuenas, al que se atribuyen propiedades curativas.
