History
Esta antigua jurisdicción del valle de Tobalina perduró a través del Antiguo Régimen. En 1834 se integra en el partido de Villarcayo. Se dividió, entre el censo de 1857 y el anterior, en dos ayuntamientos: Valle de Tobalina y Partido de la Sierra en Tobalina, compuesto por su cabecera Valderrama y cuatro lugares más: Cubilla, Ranera, Villanueva de los Montes y Zangández. Los dos últimos pasaron más adelante a pertenecer al municipio de Oña.
