Origins
El nombre de Mesones aparece como Mijúnish o Majjúnish y Mishúnísh en diferentes pasajes del autor árabe az-Zuhrí. Remonta al latín Mansiones “paradores, mesones”, denominación que alude a la presencia en el lugar, ya en la época romana, de varios establecimientos en los que los viajeros podían pernoctar.
History
A mediados del siglo XIX la villa tenía contabilizada una población de 525 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el decimoprimer volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Hasta la reforma de la nomenclatura municipal de 1916 el municipio se llamaba simplemente Mesones. En dicha fecha su nombre fue modificado por el de Mesones de Isuela.
Monuments
En la localidad hay una iglesia bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. En el municipio también se encuentra el castillo de Mesones de Isuela.
