Villarroya de los Pinares is a municipality located in the Maestrazgo region, province of Teruel, Aragon, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality had a population of 190 inhabitants. It is in the northern part of the Gúdar mountain range next to the Guadalope River at an altitude of 1,337 meters and at a distance of 51 km from the provincial capital, Teruel on the A-226 road.

History
A mediados del siglo XIX, la villa tenía contabilizada una población de 1278 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el decimosexto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Monuments
El pueblo de Villarroya de los Pinares fue declarado conjunto histórico-artístico en 1982. Numerosos edificios históricos del caso urbano están coronados con escudos antiguos e inscripciones.
La iglesia gótica de la localidad, construida en 1459 y dedicada a la Virgen de la Asunción, tiene un notable ábside poligonal y una galería porticada. Ha experimentado varias reparaciones a partir de entonces. El cardenal de la Peña, que siempre albergó el sueño de trasformarla en catedral, yace sepultado en ella.
La ermita levantada en honor al patrono del lugar, San Benón, se levanta en las inmediaciones de la localidad. También, en las cercanías de ésta, se encuentra el castillo en ruinas que perteneciera a Jaime I de Aragón.
