Villar de Torre is a village in the province and autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 11.99 square kilometres (4.63 sq mi) and as of 2011 had a population of 263 people.

Origins
“Villar” proviene del castellano antiguo y se suele referir a una “villa”, y “de Torre” podría referirse a las diversas casas solariegas que hay en el pueblo construidas en vertical.
History
Una leyenda cuenta de la existencia de dos aldeas “Villar” y “Torre” las cuales se unieron tras el paso de una epidemia de peste.
Se han encontrado vestigios celtíberos posiblemente de un poblado pelendón y también se han encontrado artículos romanos.
La primera cita documental pertenece al año 943 cuando el rey García Sánchez I de Pamplona y su segunda esposa, Teresa Ramírez, someten la villa de Villar de Torre al monasterio de San Millán de la Cogolla.
Monuments
Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Data del siglo XVI, de una sola nave, posee un soportal de entrada en su fachada sur que protege el pórtico de acceso. Uno de sus mayores valores es su retablo mayor, de estilo romanista, realizado por los artistas Lázaro de Leiva y Miguel de Ureta entre los años 1589 y 1630. Este retablo al ser uno de los últimos de ambos artistas, marca el arranque del barroco riojano.
Lavadero Municipal. Ubicado en el centro de la localidad, frente a la iglesia y junto al puente sobre el río Tuerto que parte la localidad.
