Villar de la Yegua

Villar de la Yegua is a municipality located in the province of Salamanca, Castile and León, Spain. As of 2016 (data from INE), the municipality has a population of 198 inhabitants. The municipal territory is home to the Siega Verde Paleolithic art site, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010.

History
Su término municipal, que incluye las localidades de Barquilla, Serranillo y Villar de la Yegua, tiene una superficie de 55,80 km² y una población de 151 habitantes (INE 2025).
Monuments
La iglesia parroquial de Villar de la Yegua se encuentra bajo la advocación de San Juan Bautista. Tiene restos que podrían atribuirse al siglo XV y conserva una esbelta torre construida por Hernando de Güemes en 1535. De este siglo, no conserva su primitivo retablo, pero sí piezas de gran valor artístico, como una talla de San Sebastián y un crucifijo, que se colocaron en el retablo barroco, que levantó un miembro de la familia Churriguera, probablemente Manuel de Larra Churriguera. Durante el último tercio del siglo XVIII se reforma la fábrica, de la mano del arquitecto neoclasicista Simón de Castro en 1771, que levantó el pórtico sur. Casi a finales de siglo, Manuel Martín levantó los lienzos laterales y las capillas colaterales.
