History
A la caída del Antiguo Régimen la localidad se constituye en municipio constitucional en la región de Castilla la Vieja, partido de Ágreda que en el censo de 1842 contaba con 43 hogares y 170 vecinos. Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar tenía contabilizadas 50 casas. Aparece descrito en el decimoquinto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Valdegeña y su entorno son protagonistas en muchas de las obras de Avelino Hernández (ilustre hijo de este pueblo), especialmente en las narraciones juveniles como Silvestrito y Una vez había un pueblo.
En noviembre de 2012 se hizo conocido el pueblo por un documental del año 2007 en el que dos vecinos, los hermanos Ciriano, Moisés e Isidro, presagian la crisis que vendría poco después.
