Sant Just Desvern (Old Catalan for 'Saint Justin of-the-Buckthorn'; Catalan pronunciation: [ˈsaɲ ˈʒuzd dəzˈβɛɾn]) is a town near Barcelona, in the comarca of the Baix Llobregat, Catalonia, Spain. Sant Just Desvern is located in the 2,078317º of longitude and 41,381611º of latitude. It is situated at 122 m (average) above sea level. The maximum height is located at 405 meters above sea level, almost in the top of Turó de Merlès (416.7 m), and the lowest spot of this town is about 40 meters, located at the park of Torreblanca. The surface of the town is about 7.8 km2. The town has 35 km of streets. It has good connections to arrive to N-340, the highway A-2 and Rondes de Dalt and Litoral. In the first division of comarcal, Sant Just Desvern was included in Barcelonès (1936). But in the comarcal revision in 1987, along with Esplugues de Llobregat, they became part of Baix Llobregat. The municipality borders are Sant Joan Despí to the southwest, Esplugues de Llobregat to the east and Sant Feliu de Llobregat to the northeast. Barcelona is almost in the border line. The first mention of the town in a document dates back to the year 965. Its coat of arms depicts a blue bell inside a golden rhombus. The local city council uses the slogan pobleiciutat (Catalan for 'townandcity'). Sant Just Desvern is home to several celebrities including players for the F.C. Barcelona football club and politicians including the ex-president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, José Montilla.

Origins
La primera mención escrita conocida sobre San Justo Desvern se encuentra en un documento redactado el 8 de diciembre del año 965, contenido en el Cartulario de San Cugat del Vallés, que se custodia en el Archivo de la Corona de Aragón. Se trata de una carta de donación relativa a un legado efectuado por un presbítero llamado Juan, y, en ella, lo que después será San Justo Desvern recibe el nombre de Villa Birce.
Los siguientes documentos ya corresponden al período inmediatamente posterior al ataque sarraceno del año 985, y hacen referencia a dos de sus víctimas. Se trata del testamento sacramental de un hombre llamado Moció, fechado el 26 de junio de 987 y que se conserva en el Archivo Diocesano de Barcelona, y de una carta escrita por una mujer llamada Dadil, sin datar, pero presumiblemente coetánea con el documento anterior, contenida en el Liber Antiquitatum número 4 del Archivo Capitular de la catedral de Barcelona. Las denominaciones que figuran en estos dos documentos son, respectivamente, Berce y Vercio.
Los documentos sucesivos, cada vez más frecuentes, irán mostrando paulatinamente la transición de este topónimo desde la forma original Birce hasta el actual Desvern.
History
San Justo Desvern, por su proximidad a Barcelona, sus poco más de 20 000 habitantes y la tranquilidad en la que se encuentra, está entre los diez municipios de renta per cápita más elevados según el barómetro del IDESCAT (Instituto de Estadística de Cataluña) y se debe a que diversos famosos, políticos, cónsules y empresarios viven en él, como el expresidente de la Generalidad de Cataluña José Montilla, el presidente de Repsol YPF S.A. Antoni Brufau o los jugadores del F.C. Barcelona José Manuel Pinto, Ronald Koeman, entre otros.
