History
Su término municipal está formado por un solo núcleo de población, ocupa una superficie total de 14,03 km² y según los datos demográficos recogidos en el padrón municipal elaborado por el INE en el año 2025, cuenta con una población de 206 habitantes.
En tiempos compartían estación de tren con el cercano pueblo de Fresnedoso.

What to visit
Tradiciones:
El juego de la Calva, que también se juega mucho por esta zona, como en la Calzada de Béjar, Aldeacipreste, Valbuena, Sorihuela, Santibáñez de Béjar y Puente del Congosto.
Fiestas:
Las fiestas patronales se celebran el día 15 de agosto en honor a Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, comenzando el programa de actividades culturales y festivas una semana antes; y el día 14 de septiembre en honor al Cristo del Humilladero, con la tradicional subida (y procesión) del Cristo el día 13 y la posterior bajada una semana después. También es destacable la Bendición de los campos, las tierras de cultivo y los terrenos de pasto el 31 de mayo; cuyo escenario es la llamada Peña de los Frailes.
Gastronomía:
Son típicos del municipio las patatas revueltas, la chanfaina, el cordero, el hornazo y las perrunillas.

Buses
El municipio está bien comunicado por carretera con los núcleos vecinos siendo atravesado por la DSA-250 que une La Cabeza de Béjar con Navalmoral de Béjar. Por el contrario el acceso tanto a la nacional N-630 que une Gijón con Sevilla como la autovía Ruta de la Plata que tiene el mismo recorrido que la anterior implica dar un importante rodeo o atravesar un camino ganadero sin asfaltar que une el municipio con Fresnedoso, a menos de 4 km de distancia y donde se encuentra la salida de la autovía.
En cuanto al transporte público se refiere, tras el cierre de la ruta ferroviaria de la Vía de la Plata, que pasaba por el municipio y contaba con estación en el mismo, compartida con el vecino término de Fresnedoso, no existen servicios de tren en el municipio ni en los vecinos, ni tampoco línea regular con servicio de autobús, siendo la estación más cercana la de Béjar. Por otro lado el aeropuerto de Salamanca es el más cercano, estando a unos 73 km de distancia.
