Quel is a village in the province and autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 54.78 square kilometres (21.15 sq mi) and as of 2011 had a population of 2096 people. Quel is known for its castle, which overlooks the town from atop a steep hill. The village's name is derived from the Arabic قَلْعَة (qalat), meaning "castle" or "fortress."

History
Quel destaca por su castillo, que corona el pueblo, y lo ha marcado desde siempre, no en vano el nombre de Quel procede del árabe Qalat, que significa 'castillo'. Respaldado por la colina, abrupta, en la que se alzan los restos del castillo, el pueblo se abre a la vega del Cidacos que riega una rica huerta.
