History
Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar, una anteiglesia conocida por el nombre de «Meacaur de Morga» que ya por entonces disponía de ayuntamiento propio, tenía contabilizada una población de 413 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el undécimo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz con las siguientes palabras:
