Itsasondo

Itsasondo is a town and municipality located in the Goierri region of the province of Gipuzkoa, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, northern Spain.
Origins
Según Koldo Mitxelena en su libro Apellidos Vascos el topónimo Isasondo significa etimológicamente cerca del mar, del vasco itsaso (mar) y el sufijo ondo (cerca, junto a).
History
Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar, ya por entonces con ayuntamiento propio, tenía contabilizada una población de 475 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el noveno volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz con las siguientes palabras:
