History
Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, la villa tenía contabilizada una población de 322 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el octavo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
leyenda : Se cuenta que en Fuertescusa, junto al arroyo del Peral, existe un paraje conocido como “La Puerta del Infierno”. Según la leyenda, en este lugar se construyeron tres túneles excavados en la roca en 1928. Durante la construcción, los trabajadores escuchaban extraños ruidos y veían sombras que parecían moverse por las paredes. Algunos decían que eran almas en pena atrapadas en la roca, mientras que otros creían que eran espíritus guardianes del lugar. A pesar de los temores, los túneles se completaron y hoy en día son un punto de interés para los visitantes, quienes a menudo sienten una extraña sensación al pasar por ellos.
