Encío

Encío is a municipality and town located in the province of Burgos, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 53 inhabitants.
History
Así se describe a Cucho en el tomo VII del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar, obra impulsada por Pascual Madoz a mediados del siglo XIX:
Monuments
Iglesia de San Cosme y San Damián: templo de estilo románico que datado de los siglos XII y XIII. Fue declarada BIC en 1983. En 2005, y debido al estado en que se encontraba, la Junta de Castilla y León destinó 74.455 euros para la restauración de sus pinturas murales y la recuperación de la cubierta de este templo. Incluida en la Lista roja de patrimonio en peligro de la asociación Hispania Nostra.
El monasterio benedictino Santa María la Imperial fundado por Alfonso VII en el siglo XII sobre un antiguo eremitorio, otorgándole el título de “Imperial”. Un incendio en 1781 destruyó casi todo el conjunto. Dado su preocupante estado de conservación, este monumento ha sido incluido en la Lista roja de patrimonio en peligro de la asociación para la defensa del patrimonio Hispania Nostra.
