History
A mediados del XIX, el lugar tenía contabilizada una población de 174 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el séptimo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Es la localidad natal del famoso artista, pionero de la abstracción expresionista en España, Modesto Ciruelos.
