Crivillén

Crivillén is a municipality in the Andorra-Sierra de Arcos comarca, province of Teruel, part of the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. According to the 2023 census the municipality has a population of 90 inhabitants. Its postal code is 44557. The sculptor Pablo Serrano spent his youth in Crivillén, and there is a museum on his honor. According to Agustín Ventura Conejero, the name Crivillén comes from the Latin Fundus Crivillanus, Fundus meaning farm or place and Crivillanus coming from Criviliano or Crivilio. It is not clear who Criviliano or Crivilio refers to, but it is speculated to refer to a Roman official. Eventually, Fundus Crivillanus was shortened to Crivillanus and then again to Crivillán or Crivillén.

Origins
Según Agustín Ventura Conejero, el nombre de Crivillén proviene del latín Fundus Crivillanus, Fundus que significa finca o lugar y Crivillanus que proviene de Criviliano o Crivilio. No está claro a quién se refiere Criviliano o Crivilio, pero se especula que se refiere a un jefe u oficial romano. Fundus Crivillanus se acortó a Crivillanus y luego se acortó otra vez a Crivillán o Crivillén.
History
A mediados del siglo XIX la aldea tenía contabilizada una población de 709 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el séptimo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Tenía una población de 86 habitantes en 2020 (INE).
