Carucedo (Spanish pronunciation: [kaɾuˈθeðo]; Leonese: Carucéu) is a village and municipality located in the region of El Bierzo (province of León, Castile and León, Spain) . According to the 2025 census (INE)[1], the municipality has a population of 479 inhabitants. Situated in the comarca of El Bierzo, it is located 147 kilometres from the provincial capital, León. The municipality is crossed by the N-536, linking it to Ponferrada and El Barco de Valdeorras, and the N-122, which connects it with León and Ourense.

History
El municipio comprende los pueblos de La Barosa, Campañana, El Carril, Carucedo, Lago de Carucedo, Las Médulas y Villarrando.
Monuments
Las Médulas. En el término municipal se halla el paraje de Las Médulas, explotación aurífera romana declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1997 por la Unesco, y que fue la mina de oro a cielo abierto más grande de todo el Imperio Romano. El trabajo de ingeniería realizado para la extracción del mineral supuso la alteración del medio ambiente pero dio como resultado un paisaje de arenas rojizas, cubierto en la actualidad parcialmente de vegetación de castaños y robles, estando considerado un paisaje cultural y siendo reconocido como Monumento Natural.
Lago de Carucedo. Destaca entre los lagos de barrera o aluvionamiento por su singular formación, debida a las excavaciones romanas de Las Médulas.
Iglesia parroquial de Carucedo. De origen románico, contiene una de las piezas de platería más importante de El Bierzo, del siglo XVIII.
