History
En su término, en el denominado lugarcillo de Duruelo, hizo San Juan de la Cruz su primera fundación de un convento masculino de carmelitas en el siglo XVI. Su construcción tuvo lugar el año 1568, y fue lugar de gran devoción para Santa Teresa de Jesús.
Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar tenía contabilizada una población de 146 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el cuarto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Su alcaldesa Laurentina Alonso Nieto, que en 2006 tenía 71 años edad, ha figurado en el cargo por más de cuarenta años, suponiendo un mandato extraordinariamente longevo.
