Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar, por entonces ya con ayuntamiento propio del que formaba parte también el caserío de Palconsol, tenía contabilizada una población de 273 habitantes. La localidad aparece descrita en el decimosexto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
