A mediados del siglo XIX, la villa tenía contabilizada una población de 266 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el decimosexto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
