Villarcayo de Merindad de Castilla la Vieja (Spanish pronunciation: [biʎaɾˈkaʝo ðe meɾinˈdað ðe kasˈtiʎa la ˈβjexa]) is a municipality located in the province of Burgos, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 4,031 inhabitants.
History
La villa es atravesada por el río Nela, y se encuentra situada en la zona oeste de un amplio valle.
Se caracteriza por sus fiestas patronales de julio y agosto y por tener una elevada industrialización, gracias a su polígono industrial, que fue ampliado en 2012.
