History
Se tienen noticias de su existencia en el siglo XI. En el siglo XIV pertenecía a la merindad del infantazgo de Valladolid y su señor era Juan Alfonso de Alburqueque.
A partir del 1387 el castillo/palacio pasó, por donación real de Juan I de Castilla, a Gutierre González Quijada III, siendo el feudo más importante de esta familia. hasta su último representante D. Luis Méndez de Quijada, mayordomo de Carlos I.
En los años 50 del siglo XX se realizaron sondeos para la búsqueda de petróleo, que dieron resultado negativo.

Es citado en la sátira Fray Gerundio de Campazas, del jesuita ilustrado José Francisco Isla.
Antonio Ponz, viajero ilustrado visitó el pueblo y su colegio, en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, cuando la Compañía de Jesús ya había sido expulsada, y dejó escrito:
Patrimonio inmaterial:
San Blas, el 3 febrero;
La Virgen del Rosario, el primer domingo de octubre.
Todavía quedan tradiciones como la carrera de cintas a caballo o el encierro de reses bravas a caballo por el campo.
En Semana Santa, se celebra la procesión del Ecce Homo, que recorre el camino desde la ermita hasta la iglesia de San Pedro el Miércoles Santo, y de vuelta a la ermita el Viernes Santo.
