Villadoz

Según el historiador y filólogo aragonés Antonio Ubieto Arteta hasta 1609 se usaba oficialmente el término "Villadolz" (nombre en aragonés del municipio) y posteriormente desde 1646 se utiliza el término actual de "Villadoz". Precisamente atendiendo a esta primera denominación aragonesa podemos deducir el origen del topónimo, puesto que la forma patrimonial "dolz" procede del latín "dulce". Villadoz presenta la denominación de villa a la que se suma un matiz complaciente y cautivador (-doz/-dolz/"dulce") que también presentan otros municipios de la zona como Villarreal de Huerva, Villahermosa del Campo o Fombuena, dichos matices tenían el propósito de incentivar la repoblación tras la Reconquista.

Romans archaeological remains dated in the 2nd century B.C. have been found inside the municipal limit. Specifically, archaeologists found remains of lime near the river Huerva that seem to be the base of a Roman bridge, as well as Roman villas in the zone known as "Fuente del Manco" (Source of the Shortage) and part of the Roman causeway that was joining "Caecesaraugusta" (Zaragoza) with Saguntum (Sagunto) and Valentia (Valencia) near the Roman villas. They have also found numerous Roman ceramic objects in the zone of "Fuente del Manco".

In the year 1248, for privilege of Jaime I of Aragon, this place comes undone of Daroca's dependence, happening to form a part of "Sesma de Langa" in the Community of Daroca's Villages, which were depending directly on the king, lasting this administrative regime up to the death of Fernando VII of Spain in 1833, being disuelta already in 1838. The parochial church of Mudejar Aragonese art dedicated to Santiago Apostle was built in first years, also in this time was built the hermitages dedicated to Saint Bartholome are built (demolished) and to Mary Magdalene (in ruins).

In the middle of the 19th century, the hermitages of Saint Bartholome and of Mary Magdalene were destroyed. A new hermitage was constructed dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, the new patron saint of the village. In 1845, the Villarroya del Campo village was declared as a neighborhood of Villadoz. The neighborhood became free at the end of the same century.

In 1933, industry arrived in Villadoz through the railway network Zaragoza – Caminreal, which was administered by the company "Ways of Iron of the North". To half of the above-mentioned century there were unified the railway Spanish companies and it happened to form a part of Renfe, in addition the line extended up to Teruel. In the late 1990s, the line was extended in both directions towards Valencia and Huesca, respectively. During the Spanish Civil War, there is some information to indicate that there was an attempt on the railroad, and five republicans of Santa Cruz de Noguera were executed on the railway bridge. Four Falangists from the village were killed as well.

The village was modernized in the 21st century. In 2006, the múdejar tower of the parochial church of Santiago Apostle and the peiron of the Virgin of Carmen underwent reconstruction. In 2008, the A-23 (Mudejar Highway) was built, and a new railway alighting-place and a municipal park were also constructed.

Villadoz entre otros cuenta con los siguientes lugares de interés: la ermita de San Martín de Tours (ruinas), la ermita de santa María Magdalena (ruinas reconstruidas), la iglesia parroquial de Santiago Apóstol (torre de estilo mudéjar y retablo gótico del siglo XV) y Peirón de la Virgen del Carmen (estilo mudéjar).

Romería de la 'Santísima Trinidad': Se celebra el domingo anterior al Corpus Christi. Durante este día se honra a la ‘Virgen del Rosario’, realizándose una peregrinación a su santuario en la cercana localidad de Villarreal de Huerva. Celebrada la eucaristía y repartido el pan bendito (bizcocho bendecido), es común que las familias y amigos disfruten de un vermú. Posteriormente, algunos vecinos se reúnen también para comer en el salón de la ermita, conservando la antigua tradición romera. Por la tarde se reza un rosario de despedida a la Virgen, para después procesionar de vuelta al municipio.

Fiestas en honor a 'Santiago Apóstol': Se celebran la última semana de julio. Son las fiestas mayores de la localidad, en ellas se organizan gran cantidad de eventos destinados a todos los públicos como conciertos nocturnos, concursos, cena popular, actividades infantiles, pasacalles... El domingo, día grande de las fiestas se celebra una misa amenizada en honor a Santiago Apóstol y posteriormente un vermú organizado por el ayuntamiento. Por la tarde como final de fiestas se celebra una gran merienda en la que se realizan bailes y se premia a los ganadores de los concursos.

Fiestas en honor a 'San Martín': Se celebran el fin de semana del 11 de noviembre. Son las fiestas más icónicas del municipio y están dedicadas a su patrón principal. El sábado por la tarde con la puesta del sol se enciende una gran hoguera en la plaza de la localidad y se realiza la procesión de San Martín por las calles del municipio. Posteriormente los vecinos del pueblo realizan un asado en la hoguera, del que son famosos los chorizos. Ya entrada la noche se realiza una verbena en el pabellón. El domingo por la mañana se realiza una misa amenizada en honor al patrón del municipio seguida de un vermú organizado por el ayuntamiento.
