Valdeolmos-Alalpardo is a municipality of the Community of Madrid, Spain. It comprises three separate blocks: Valdeolmos, Alalpardo and Miraval. Alalpardo is famous for a live Nativity scene in which more than 200 people create images of the birth of Christ. Shepherds, Roman soldiers, craftspeople, fishermen, merchants, and live mules, donkeys, horses, hens, geese, sheep, pigs, ducks, and falcons are gathered together every year for two days over Christmas to create more than 20 Nativity scenes.

Origins

En cuanto a Valdeolmos, no ofrece ninguna duda, el nombre es de procedencia castellana, y procede de la corrupción de la expresión Valle de Olmos, en clara referencia a su situación física, entre los arroyos El Casar y Calderón y con gran abundancia de olmos. El nombre de Alalpardo es de procedencia árabe, y obedecería a la denominación Aldea el Pardo, utilizada durante los siglos XVI y XVII y que vendría a significar: población pequeña en tierra de labranza de color oscuro.
