History
A mediados del siglo XIX, la villa tenía contabilizada una población de 273 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el decimoquinto volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:

La localidad tiene una iglesia parroquial católica bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, dependiente del párroco de Villanueva de la Sierra en la diócesis de Coria-Cáceres.
