Santa María de Cayón
Santa María de Cayón is a municipality in the province and autonomous community of Cantabria, northern Spain. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 9,167 inhabitants. The biggest town inside the municipality is not its capital (where the town hall is located, and which gives name to the municipality), but rather the town of Sarón.

El municipio limita al norte con Villaescusa, Penagos y Liérganes, al este con Miera y San Roque de Riomiera, al sur con Villafufre y Saro, y al oeste con Castañeda y Santiurde de Toranzo.

Patrimonio:
Dentro de su patrimonio arquitectónico, destaca la iglesia de San Andrés en Argomilla de Cayón, de estilo románico y declarada Bien de interés cultural de Cantabria. También es románica la iglesia de Santa María de Cayón, de finales del siglo XII, bien de interés local. Igualmente son bienes de interés local el Palacio de Ceballos en Argomilla de Cayón y la Ermita de San Miguel (La Penilla). Son Bienes inventariados la Casa-torre de Abadilla de Cayón y el Puente del Diablo.

Se trata de una iniciativa del Ayuntamiento, junto con la Escuela de atletismo, en la que deportistas nacionales, e internacionales, participan en una carrera de una milla de recorrido por el pueblo. El año 2019 ha cumplido su 18.ª edición.
