History
Lugar que durante la Edad Media formaba parte de la Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Yanguas, en el censo de Floridablanca denominado Partido de Yanguas, señorío del marqués de Aguilar.
A la caída del Antiguo Régimen la localidad se constituye en municipio constitucional, conocido entonces como Santa Cruz y Verguizas en la región de Castilla la Vieja, partido de Ágreda que en el censo de 1842 contaba con 66 hogares y 256 vecinos. A mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar de Santa Cruz tenía contabilizada una población de 172 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el séptimo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Entre el censo de 1857 y el anterior crece el término del municipio porque incorpora a Villartoso. En Santa Cruz de Yanguas se elaboraba Carbón vegetal. Sus ganados formaron parte de la trashumancia a través de la Cañada Real Soriana Oriental.

Museo del bosque: réplica de una cabeza de dinosaurio, historia y murales del bosque de Santa Cruz.
