History
Villa en la cuadrilla de Prádano, una de las siete en que se dividía la Merindad de Bureba perteneciente al partido de Bureba. Jurisdicción de realengo con regidor pedáneo.
Localidad de paso del Camino de Santiago, por la llamada “Ruta de Bayona”, tuvo en el siglo XIV un hospital con 8 camas. En la actualidad, existe un albergue de peregrinos. Cuenta con una iglesia del siglo XVI, cuya Torre y retablo son del siglo XVII.
A la caída del Antiguo Régimen queda constituida en ayuntamiento constitucional del mismo nombre, en el partido Briviesca, región de Castilla la Vieja. Contaba entonces con 324 habitantes.
