History
A mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar tenía contabilizada una población de 125 habitantes. Aparece descrito en el decimoprimer volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
Hasta la reforma de la nomenclatura municipal de 1916 el municipio se llamaba simplemente Mediana. En dicha fecha su nombre fue modificado por el de Mediana de Voltoya.
