A mediados del siglo XIX, la villa tenía contabilizada una población de 334 habitantes. Aparece descrita en el octavo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
