Origins
El nombre de Férez es de origen y significado incierto. Una etimología popular dice que procede del árabe, فارس Fāris, nombre propio de varón que significa «caballero» sin embargo esto no está probado y existen otras teorías, también sin probar.
History
Territorio perteneciente a la antigua Taifa de Murcia, pasó a ser dominio de la Corona de Castilla en virtud del Tratado de Alcaraz en 1243 de mano del infante don Alfonso, el futuro Alfonso X el Sabio, pasando posteriormente a formar parte del Reino de Murcia.

What to visit
Especialmente reseñable es la ruta de Amanece, que no es poco, una película coral de humor absurdo, con un guion surrealista repleto de situaciones de humor delirante, de José Luis Cuerda rodada en Molinicos, Lietor y Ayna, y en la que aparecen como extras dos o tres personas que eran vecinos de Férez. En aquellos municipios, todos una hora aproximadamente de conducción desde Férez se pueden visitar los lugares y escenarios en los que se filmaron varias escenas.
