History
Perteneció a la Orden de Calatrava entre los siglos XII y XV. El municipio ya es citado en las Relaciones topográficas de Felipe II, en las que se hace referencia a su pequeño castillo y a la iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (románica, siglo XIII), destruida parcialmente durante la Guerra Civil.
Perteneció a la villa de Pastrana hasta mediados del siglo XVI en que, junto con Sayatón, fue desgajada y adquirida por el marqués de Mondéjar.
A mediados del siglo XIX, el lugar contaba con una población censada de 236 habitantes. La localidad aparece descrita en el séptimo volumen del Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar de Pascual Madoz de la siguiente manera:
El 7 de junio de 2007, un terremoto de Magnitud Mb4.2 estrelló 3 kilómetros de las afueras de Escopete, se estimó que el seísmo tuvo una intensidad de VI en la escala de Mercalli, pero no se reportaron daños o heridos en el pueblo.
