History
In 1594, written in the Book of the Million, the population census of the provinces and parties of the Crown of Castile in
16th century was part of the province Order of Santiago de Leon and had 404 pecheros neighbors.
The fall of the old system of the town, then known as "'Campillo'", was established in constitutional municipality in the region of Extremadura. It was integrated in the judicial district of Llerena from 1834.
Monuments
Iglesia parroquial católica bajo la advocación de San Bartolomé, en la archidiócesis de Mérida-Badajoz. La iglesia fue levantada en el siglo XV si bien está muy modificada. Sobre la fachada gótico mudéjar destaca su gran torre con varios ventanales para las campanas en el tercio superior. Está construida a base de ladrillo. La portada está dotada de arrabá y conopeo. La iglesia tiene dos cuerpos; el inferior es de mayor categoría y el superior se reconstruyó en 1955 con escaso gusto y conocimientos. En el altar mayor había un retablo de Estacio de Bruselas pero quedó destruido en 1936.
